I was thinking about America whilst watching the closing ceremony of the Beijing Olympics, do you think that America will last? Everything comes to an end and I like the American core principles and morals but I also believe a core of people in America have all the power and are using it for nefarious means, stolen election or two, a diverting war and a quest for oil. Bin Laden worked for the CIA and still does. George W Bush Jnr/Snr have links to the oil and defense industries all of which have increased in size and power. When you look at it all, doesn't it seem a bit like the Roman empire? the more i look at America the more i feel bad for the average American they know they are being lied to but they like us have no power to do anything about it.

No. Like all major world powers, America will decline and it seems to have already started.

I think America will change, as the whole world will. I can't see your question in simple terms, though.
Is it about having the loudest voice in international dialogue/'diplomacy'? Is it about cultural influence?
If it's the latter, then America has been going from strength to strength as far as I can see. Mind you, I'm limited largely to what the media presents these days!
Look at Russia for example, it just seems to be adopting the values of America. Years ago, it seems to me, it had it's own message for the world.
If the oil and defence industries are too strong, whatever that means, then by definition they could be harmful.
But I'm not sure I agree that the average American thinks he/she is being lied to. Don't the American people largely own these corporations through investments and pension schemes (even if corporatism is open to abuse)?

I think that people over-rate American power. In relative terms, I do not see American power as being as great as it was at the end of WW2.
Its interesting to me that the USA has not been able to fight and win any major war since then without significant military and logistical assistance from her allies.
